The Effects of Cocaine

The main effects of cocaine are that it acts as a local anaesthetic, and it temporarily block the reuptake of dopamine in the brain causing an intense rush of euphoria, accompanied by an increase in confidence, and some increase in energy and decrease in appetite.

It is most commonly snorted (insufflated), but it can be injected, or taken orally. If injected the anaesthetic effects of the cocaine tend to have a profound numbing effect on the area around the injection site. If snorted it may cause a numbing of the nose and the front teeth.
